Original Disney hand-painted 1959 Sleeping Beauty production cel King Hubert

NOTE: This cel is in mint condition. Photos appear to show condition issues, but they are just light reflections on the cel and/or shadows cast onto the cel from imperfections in the frame's glass. Additional photos under different light and from different angles will be provided on request. This is an original production cel (celluloid) from Walt Disney's 1959 movie production of Sleeping Beauty. This hand-painted cel features a classic image of King Hubert.

This is a prime cel of the King from the movie - it captures his entire body and face as well as a commanding gesture. It is as close to a perfect "take" as the scene and Hubert's personality allow. John Lounsbery, one of Walt Disney's master animators known as his Nine Old Men, supervised the animation of King Hubert. Sleeping Beauty cels mark one of the high points of the art form as practiced in Disney's Ink and Paint Department.

The paints are remarkably rich and vibrant, and the inking (in numerous complementary colors) is expert and elegant. The cel measures approximately 8" x 11".

The frame measures approximately 11 3/4" x 15". As stated above, the cel is in mint condition ("fine") overall. The cel itself is a little wavy but this does not affect the image or value of the piece. Because of the likelihood of reframing, I have priced this artwork far less than other authentic Sleeping Beauty production cels currently available. This cel was given to my family in the 1960s and has been in our family ever since.

It has been in climate-controlled storage for the past 30 years. We would like to find this artwork a new home, where its charm and artistry can be admired by a new generation of Disney fans.
