Disney Donald and the Wheel 1961 Production Cels with Disneyland Art Corner Seal

Two Walt Disney animation production cels in the Original Disney Matte as issued. Their original Disneyland Art Corner Gold Label c.

The First Cel is Donald Duck as "Caveman" from: "DONALD AND THE WHEEL". (1961) 17 minute Cartoon Featurette. Released June 21, 1961 to Theaters along with Disney's feature "The Parent Trap" The Second Cel provides a: LARGE GLASS OF ORANGE JUICE WITH STRAW. (From 1962 Walt Disney's "Wonderful World of Color" TV Commercial).

Affixed to the back of the matte is the original Disneyland Art Corner Gold Label applied by the Disneyland Art Corner. This "Gold Label" is of the variety that was used at the Disneyland Art Corner from 1962 through 1965. Reasonable offers will be considered. The first cel is of "Caveman" Donald Duck. This cel contains a 3ΒΌ inch high image of Donald from Disney's 17 minute animation featurette, Donald and the Wheel.

" "Donald and the Wheel" was released in theaters on June 21, 1961, as the companion cartoon to Disney's feature length movie, "The Parent Trap that was released the same day. The second cel is a large Glass of Orange Juice with a Straw. This cel comes from a TV commercial shown during Walt Disney's "Wonderful World of Color" television show. These two cels have survived intact in their original Disneyland packaging. More than the 60 years have passed since Disney used these cels for actual animation productions.

Only a very few "Caveman" Donald Duck cels from Disney's 1961 "Donald and the Wheel" cartoon featurette ramain in existence. The full Donald Duck cel here is larger than the visible space showing through the Disney matte. Donald Duck's painted image takes up only the right half of the visible image space in this standard size Disneyland Art Corner matte.

The hand-painted Orange Juice Glass cel was placed by the Disneyland Art Corner to occupy the left half of the visible space. We have search the internet worldwide and have only been able to locate a very limited number of examples of such mixed matched Disneyland Art Corner releases.

We did found a similar "Caveman" Donald Duck production cel from the same featurette sequence as here. That Art Corner issue had matched the "Caveman" Donald to a very small image of Jiminy Cricket painted on a cel from Disney's Pinocchio. The Jiminy Cricket image had been placed where the Orange Juice Glass cel is located here. Disney's limited dispersal of this "Caveman" Donald Duck cel series only through a combination with other cels has made "Caveman" Donald quite a scarce animation.

A "Caveman" Donald Duck reproduction was also used in Icygeek's "Disney Magic: the Gathering" card game (such as "Caveduck, Legendary Creature Duck Barbarian") and in many popular GIF format background screen savers. These are only later copies of the original 1961 cels in a variety of sizes.

The cels here are not commemorations, reproductions, or copies, but the original hand-painted production cels with provenance tracing them back to use by Disney for the filming of its actual cartoons. The initial scans are of the actual Disney artwork being offered, with the last scan showing a promotional piece concerning the 1961 release of the "Donald and the Wheel" featurette (not included in this lot).
