THIRTEEN PONGO PRODUCTION MODEL SHEETS WALT DISNEY STUDIOS PRINT ON PHOT STAT PAPER, 1961. Thirteen original production animation model sheets of Pongo from "One Hundred and One Dalmatians, " 1961, Walt Disney Studios; Printed on photo stat paper signed Joe Hale in pencil upper left on the first page; Stapled together on the left edge; Unframed. Within the Walt Disney Animation Studios, model sheets were used to help to standardize the appearance, gestures, mannerisms, personality, sizes, scale, and poses of characters for the film. The model sheets were required when multiple animators were involved in the animation process in order to maintain continuity in the characters from scene to scene.
Because model sheets were an integral part of the Disney Studios process, the sheet's condition will show signs of wear, such as folds, drink or coffee stains, or small tears that are consistent with both their age and their usefulness within the studio. In some cases, individual images would have been cut out of a model sheet so that they could be pinned over an animator's drawing desk, passed to other animators, and/or used in the production of another model sheet. Model sheets are such a wonderful collectible as they really showcase the animation process and each negative would have been photographically printed in a very low number of approximately ten.
